Investigations of Space
I have spent much of my life as a scientist studying the particle secrets of how animals find their way through space; these and other problems concern contruction, finding how things work. In my art I attempt to decompose what is real and create new, but impossible realities, by manipulating spatial relationships.
Photo-collage is an excellent technique for creating the allusion of movement through space on a two-dimensional surface or breaking images and creating a new allusion of space. I record many digital images of a three-dimensional space and build new spaces by piecing the images together on a board or paper.
I work in acrylic and ink on canvas, board and other surfaces. These are mostly citiscapes and expressions of a confounding of indoor and outdoor space.
